Quiet in the City
The centre of Shanghai is dominated by low-rise buildings constructed during the time of the French Concession. These old properties pose some interesting challenges for designers today who seek out new uses for these historic drops of Europe in the middle of China's biggest city.



The property shown here is an 85 sqm, two storey building on Taiyuan road in the heart of the Former French Concession in downtown Shanghai. Modern windows add a brighter touch to the downstairs rooms while wooden planks can be found throughout. Restored beams on the ceiling, an internal staircase and wall heating are a few of the modern touches.
