Designing Starbucks Roastery
With more than 600 stores, Shanghai has more Starbucks coffee shops than any other city and now also features the largest store in the world: the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on West Nanjing road in Jing'an district.
This store is spread over two floors and 2,700 sqm (30,000 square foot). The two-storey copper cask adorns the wall and includes more than 1,000 traditional Chinese chops which tell the story of the company and its coffee. Inside this store are three coffee bars, a 3D printed tea bar and a ceiling which was created from 10,000 handmade wooden hexagon-shaped tiles.
The longest of the coffee bars at this location is 27 metres (88 feet) long. The use of augmented reality (AR) allows customers to point their devices at features around the store to learn more about what they see. Customers who learn more through their AR experience can receive a custom Roastery badge to share on social media.
